Health Benefits of Meditation for YOU!

Cleansing your diet of inflammatory foods, switching to organic skin & beauty-care products, working on higher-quality sleep and drinking more water are all wonderful options for living a healthier and more optimal lifestyle. When I first decided to follow an organic and healthier lifestyle, I thought that meant only the items going into and onto my body would have affect. The truth is, this is a whole-body-lifestyle shift including mindset and our outlook on the world. What does that mean? Well, I began to realize that being overly stressed out nearly every moment of the day was causing my body to deteriorate. SLOWLY.

I started practicing mindful meditation nearly 2.5 years ago when I could no longer ignore the fact that my health was spiraling out of control and I did not know where else to turn.

Meditation can improve our creative thinking, increase our energy, reduce stress levels, improve our overall health and success in life. Through many months of trial and error, I discovered that I get stressed very easily which is what causes my food intolerance/sensitivities to flare-up. I am no expert at meditation and very much still a beginner in this lifestyle shift but I have definitely noticed a huge difference especially in my sleep quality. I started by using a simple 10-minute guided meditation from one of my favorite meditation websites, https://www.calm.com. I also really enjoy insight timer and headspace for other guided meditations.

After 1-2 weeks of meditating for 10-minutes each night before bed, I noticed that I was not waking up in the middle of the night or struggling to fall and stay asleep any longer. My mind was finally quieting down and getting the relaxation it was longing for after a stressful day. Friends, I guarantee that you will benefit from his practice if you just give it a little bit of patience and approach with an open mind.

How Can Meditation Help YOU?

Well, for starters, studies show that meditation is associated with improvement in a variety of psychological areas, including stress, anxiety, addiction, depression, eating disorders and cognitive function, just to name a few. There is also research to suggest that meditation can be linked to a reduction in blood pressure, pain response, stress hormone levels and even cellular health.

Even if you do not suffer from any of the symptoms mentioned above, meditating can allow us to re-frame our perspective on the world, our attitudes towards how we view ourselves and others. Taking a moment, however long, each day of our lives to focus on our belly-breathing and focus on nothing more than the natural act of breathing can have a tremendously positive impact on our health. I mean, think about it, when did you ever think to yourself “Man, I am so annoyed that I have to sit in the sun, feel the cool breeze on my skin and take a break…damn it!” No one would ever complain about taking a break and too often we neglect self-care.

Starting this very moment, I encourage YOU to take a moment for yourself and just…BREATHE…..

XOXO,
